Nike and Vietnam free essay sample

Globalization is a wonder that has become a reality in today’s business world. Organizations, continually hoping to reduce expenses and improve profitability, frequently look abroad to either grow current business activities or to redistribute existing business tasks. Organizations regularly settle on the choice to go worldwide with the expectations of exploiting increasingly great business situations, better innovations, or associations with providers and clients. While these realities are a piece of globalization, there are additionally positive advantages, which run from lower costs to purchasers, expanded training for people inside the nations where extension happens, and a better quality of life for the people in these nations. While contentions can be made that globalization is a positive or negative power on a nation or on the world economy, the discussion isn't probably going to end at any point in the near future. This paper will investigate the positive effects of globalization by inspecting Nike in Vietnam. Nike has for quite some time been seen as the perfect example for issues related with globalization. Many have blamed Nike for utilizing laborers in sweatshop like conditions in more unfortunate nations like China, and all the more as of late Vietnam. Notwithstanding the sweatshop claims, individuals frequently state that Nike utilizes kid work, regularly in any event, guaranteeing that the kid work is constrained and happens in sweatshops. Huge numbers of these equivalent individuals likewise propose that Nike has taken occupations from the United States to these nations where there are less laws in regards to work conditions and wages so they can pay their representatives less with an end goal to make a higher benefit with no respect to the estimation of human life. These are only a couple of the allegations that individuals frequently make against global organizations, for example, Nike, and this rundown is any longer. While the facts confirm that there have been issues at specific manufacturing plants that make Nike items, the organization has found a way to guarantee that the entirety of its processing plants currently consent to fundamental human rights. It is difficult to contend that the conditions experienced by laborers at industrial facilities in Vietnam are not still incomprehensibly not quite the same as what we involvement with the West, yet the way of life is vastly different also. Along these lines, what we may see as unforgiving conditions may not, truth be told, be so to the genuine representatives. What are regularly unnoticed, or if nothing else isn't referenced, are the beneficial outcomes that Nike has brought to nations like Vietnam. As expressed beforehand, a considerable lot of the advantages of globalization inside an organization like Nike must be taken a gander at inside the setting of the way of life being inspected. An essential case of this would be the compensation. While some may contend that a regularly scheduled compensation of $72 every month is basically equivalent to utilizing slave work, the representatives at the Nike plant in Ho Chi Minh City may state in any case. As Johan Norbert (2004) takes note of, the compensation of $72 every month is â€Å"almost multiple times the lowest pay permitted by law for a state-claimed enterprise,† which normally includes unlimited days in exceptional warmth or downpour in rice fields encompassed by water and bugs. Notwithstanding being more lucrative than past occupations, working in a Nike manufacturing plant additionally gives a steady wellspring of pay. These higher wages have managed the representatives different advantages too. At the point when the primary manufacturing plants opening in Ho Chi Minh City, the laborers needed to stroll to the industrial facilities, in any case, inside a couple of years, they saw critical upgrades to their transportation alternatives. Norberg (2004) additionally composes, â€Å"After three years, they could bear the cost of bikes three years after the fact, they could manage the cost of bikes [and after eight years], the main laborers [could] stand to purchase a vehicle. † This is a reality that couple of individuals in Ho Chi Minh City experience, with under 5% of the populace claiming a vehicle. Be that as it may, maybe perhaps the best advantage that globalization has brought to Vietnam is the accessibility to manage the cost of advanced education. Previously, numerous kids would have been taken care of to take a shot at ranches for their families to endure, yet â€Å"In ten years, 2. 2 million kids have gone from youngster work to education† (Norberg, 2004). A huge number of youngsters going to class because of globalization is a long ways from a significant number of the kid work allegations recently referenced. Globalization is, and most likely will consistently be, a subject that has enthusiastic individuals on the two sides of the discussion. While contentions both for and against globalization have admirable statements to make, not many individuals truly have truly set aside the effort to take a gander at the immediate effect of this regularly developing pattern. From carefully a purchaser angle, Nike’s choice to go worldwide and make manufacturing plants in an assortment of nations has prompted an expansion from under 200 styles to very nearly 1200 distinct styles accessible for procurement (Locke Siteman, 2007, p. 6). All the more critically, however, are the focuses referenced over, that representatives in nations like Vietnam make nearly 3x the wages made in their past business. Once in a while will you hear that these workers can bear the cost of things, for example, vehicles while most of individuals even inside their own city can't. You will likewise never hear that, regardless of past maltreatment of youngster work, a great many kids have had the option to get training. This is a reality that would not have been conceivable if their folks were as yet stuck working in rice fields. This instruction has the nullification to make a positive pattern of development, riches, and training for new ages that will proceed for a considerable length of time. In the event that you need to see the immediate effect that globalization can have, the instance of Nike in Vietnam gives a strong beginning stage to see the beneficial outcomes that have come to fruition as Nike has extended to have laborers in more than 50 nations.

Green Revolution vs. Organic Farming free essay sample

Dr. Pamela Haley AP Human Geography 5 April 2013 The Green Revolution refers to the application of modern, western-type farming techniques to less economically developed countries. Organic farming is a type of agriculture that uses natural forms of growing crops. In this essay I will address the comparative similarities and differences between The Green Revolution and organic farming. The Green Revolution occurred between the 1940’s and 1970’s. It consisted of using genetically modified seeds, pesticides, hormone insertion into animals, and the requirement of an irrigation system. The idea for The Green Revolution was noble: to eliminate mass famine in developing countries. It allowed for a huge increase in crops, thus, improving the average farmers’ salary. The Green revolution was the cause for Asian countries’ GDP income to almost double in just two decades and allowed poverty to shrink a substantial amount despite the population growth happening. The Green Revolution also permitted for better nutrition and for more food consumption because the price of food went down due to the plethora of it thus, people became more and more unhealthy. We will write a custom essay sample on Green Revolution vs. Organic Farming or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page People lost their traditional food and had a varied diet. But of course with a revolution of this degree has to have been some type of negative impact. Researchers have charged The Green Revolution with environmental degradation. Critics of the Green Revolution argued that owners of large farms were the main adopters of the new technologies because of their better access to irrigation water, fertilizers, seeds and credit. Small farmers were either unaffected or harmed because the Green Revolution resulted in lower product prices, higher input prices, and efforts by landlords to increase rents or force tenants off the land. They also argue that The Green Revolution heartened the needless overuse of mechanization, in doing so, forcing down rural wages and employment. Organic farming is the contrary of the processes that the Green Revolution used. The process of organic farming in which no synthetic chemicals are added and crops are not genetically modified. This system has small yields of the crop but permits for a variety of foods grown. Organic farming sponsors healthy life styles and a chance for better ecosystems, while The Green Revolution farming techniques promotes greed and mass production. Organic farming methods combine scientific knowledge and modern technology with traditional farming practices based on thousands of years of agriculture. Organic farming relies deeply on the natural break down of organic matter, via methods like green manure and composting, to maintain nutrients taken from the soil by the preceding crops; unlike Green Revolution systems by which the land was not left to recuperate the nutrients it lost. To conclude this essay, the Green Revolution differs from organic farming in a plethora of ways. The Green Revolution’s tactics is the complete opposite of organic farming’s methods of producing food. Organic farming uses Earth’s natural resources to produce food in contrast of the Green Revolution’s farming uses scientific, synthetic resources. 1. Defining the Green Revolution. Irving Independent School District V. Amber Tatro Essay Example

Irving Independent School District V. Amber Tatro Essay Example Irving Independent School District V. Amber Tatro Paper Irving Independent School District V. Amber Tatro Paper Running Head: Irving Independent School District v. Amber Tatro Irving Independent School District v. Amber Tatro Warner University A child with disabilities is a major focus in today’s education. Achieving my Bachelors in Special Education, I need to be aware of the need to ensure appropriate education for all children with disabilities. â€Å"The education of children with disabilities is a top national priority. Our nation’s special education law, the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), sets high standards for their achievement and guides how special help and services are made available in schools to address their individual needs (National Dissemination)†. This is my biggest challenge. I feel with the right tools and help with administration; my job will guarantee a bright future for my students with disabilities. I came across a case, Irving Independent School District v. Amber Tatro. The findings of this case gave me some insight on the statues and limitations that I as an educator have to abide by. But it also gave me hope that we the educators have the right to make such access meaningful to handicapped children. Amber Tatro was born with spina bifida. â€Å"As a result, she suffers from orthopedic and speech impairments and a neurogenic bladder, which prevents her from emptying her bladder voluntarily. Consequently, she must be catheterized (CIC), a procedure involving the insertion of a catheter into the urethra to drain the bladder, has been prescribed. The procedure is a simple one that may be performed in a few minutes by a layperson with less than an hour’s training (Irving)†. If CIC is not performed every three to four hours, it could cause injury of the kidneys. In 1979, Amber Tatro was provided special education with an individualized education program under the requirements of the Education of the Handicapped Act. This provided Amber with special services while attending early childhood development classes. Amber’s individualized education program however, did not provide administrative remedies to secure CIC. â€Å"In October 1979 respondents brought the present action in District Court against petitioner, the State Board of Education, and others. They sought an injunction ordering petitioner to provide Amber with CIC and sought damages and attorney’s fees (Eric)†. The court’s found CIC to be a â€Å"related service† allowing Amber to have a special education. The Court of Appeals affirmed and accepted the District Court’s conclusion that state law permitted be required schools to hire trained personnel to help with the needs of handicapped children. This entitles an education for those children with special medical needs. â€Å"A service that enables a handicapped child to remain at school during the day is an important means of providing the child with the meaningful access to education that Congress envisioned (Eric). † â€Å"The Petitioner’s view: First, to be entitled to related services, a child must be handicapped so as to require special education. In the absence of a handicap that requires special education, the need for what otherwise might qualify as a related service does not create an obligation under the Act. Second, only those services necessary to aid a handicapped child to benefit from special education must be provided, regardless how easily a school nurse or layperson could furnish them. Third, the regulations state that school nursing services must be provided only if they can be performed by a nurse of other qualified person, not if they must be performed by a physician (Eric). The resulting decision on this case was that yes, school’s are required to provide special medical needs for children with disabilities. What does this mean for education? It gives education and faculty the obligation to provide services that relate to both the health and educational needs of handicapped students (Eric). † It allows them to correct undesirable behaviors by giving them support for a search when one is appropriate . It shows to the students and parents what could happen if you violate the rules of the school. It also encourages the students to leave certain nuisances that are not going to encourage their education at home. As for me as a professional, this case has given me some enlightment on what the rights of the students are. Irving Independent School District v Amber Tatro has opened up my eyes to the freedom children with disabilities have. No child will be left without an appropriate education. Marketing and management Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words

Marketing and management - Essay Example Its customers include white collared as well as blue collared workers irrespective of their race, age and income group. Its homely atmosphere and common place ambience bestows it with a distinctive quality that makes a working family man comfortable to visit the place with his family. Its main target customers are the middle class people, both males and females aged between 18 to 25 years. Its relationship with its customers has remained unchanged through the thick and thin of time. Never has it attempted to change the profile of its target customers. The customers too have remained loyal to the company. Dunkin’ Donuts value proposition is to frame a clear idea of the type of customers it seeks to serve. An attempt to target any other type of customers will not be very effective rather it would then run the risk of losing its existing customers. The primary focus of Dunkin’ is the middle class people. Some time back Dunkin’ had termed a new sandwich as â€Å"Panini†. It was not accepted by the customers because they felt that the name was too fancy. It was then renamed as â€Å"Stuffed melt†. The company aims at broadening its customer base by providing them with products and services that they want. They came out with a campaign that involved its existing customers and clients. People shared photos along with the brand name and posted these photographs on the walls. This helped to nurture a relation between the company and its customers and drew in more coffee addicts. This measure broadened the customer base and increased brand awareness. However, the two companies target different customers and have totally different requirements for their respective coffee shops. Starbucks has differentiated itself as a service provider to high end customers. Its ambience is

Relationship of the government and the religion Essay

Relationship of the government and the religion - Essay Example Relationship of the government and the religion. In his writing in the Virginia statute for religious freedom, Jefferson made statement about the freedom of conscience and the Principe of separation between the state and the church. The Virginia religious freedom statue was rooted in Jefferson philosophy. The statute was passed by Virginia general assembly in January 1786. It is among the first amendment that sort to protect the freedom of religion. The first paragraph of the statute proclaimed freedom of thought. According to Jefferson, the nature God gives a man the freedom to choose his religious belief. Jefferson argues that since the God has given the man freedom of thought – to believe or not to believe- there should be no law that compels a man to follow any religion. Individuals are free to worship as they please with no discrimination. Jefferson wanted the assembly to enact that individuals should not be forced be to support any religious worship, or enforced, restrained in their bodies and/or goods or suffers due to their religious opinion or belief. Moreover, all individual are free to profess and by argument maintain their opinion on religious matter. Their opinion on matters of religion should not affect in any way their civil capacities. The two clauses seem to uphold the view of the Jefferson. The establishment clause prevents the state from influencing any religious opinion on its citizen. The free exercise clause, protects the citizens right to practice their religion as they please.

Of Mice and Men - Character study of Curlys wife Essay Example for Free

Of Mice and Men Character study of Curlys wife Essay The novel Of Mice and Men is set in America and is about two travelling workers who have been chased off one ranch because Lennie, one of the men did not know how to behave himself. Lennie is large, heavy and ponderous and George is small quick, dark, sharp and restless. Another tragedy happens on the ranch like in weed because Lennie used his strength to kill Curleys wife. I can sympathise with Curleys wife although she was a flirt with the other men she was not expecting to be killed by Lennie. We first meet Curleys wife in chapter two. She is described as heavily made up and wears tarty red shoes. She poses her figure outlined in the doorway of the bunkhouse and is always aware that men are looking at her. This makes me think that she is just looking for attention from the men. George shows the reader that he does not like Curleys wife because George tells Lennie that she is jailbait and for Lennie to stay away from her. Lennie sees her as an attractive young lady but she is really just a threat to the men on the ranch. In chapter three there is a big fight involving Curly and Lennie. Curley has not liked Lennie since he was looking at Curleys wife so Curley just lost his rag and started punching Lennie but then Lennie just reached for Curley and just grabbed his hand and started squeezing his hand and his hand crumbled in Lennies hand, George told Curley to tell everybody that he got his hand caught in the machine and that is what he told everyone. This just shows how Curleys wife is acting like a tart and a flirt to get all the men in trouble with Curley.Curley feels insecure because of his wifes behaviour. In chapter 4 Curleys wife was heavily made. I can sympathise with her because all she is trying to do is make some friends on the ranch but every time she tries to talk to someone they all think she is trying to flirt because she is desperate for attention because she has got an unhappy marriage with Curley and that the men think that she is trying to get them in trouble with Curley.I fell sorry for Curleys wife because on the ranch she was all alone. In chapter 5 we learn that Curleys wife had a dream to be in the movies. I do feel sorry for Curleys wife because she could have been in the movies but that was just a pipe dream because now she is stuck on the ranch married to Curley with no friends. Curley and his wife have only been married for two weeks and already they both hate it being together on the ranch. I think Steinbeck is trying to get across to the readers that she has no one in the whole world that cares for her. Her death was brutal and quick, at first lennie was just playing with the pup then he broke its neck and that is what he done to Curleys wife. My final thoughts on Curleys wife is all she was trying to do is make friends on the ranch but she just got pushed out everyone. In chapter six it is hard to feel sympathy for her because she was flirting with the men but she did not deserve to be killed by Lennie. I feel sympathy for Curleys wife although she was a big flirt and she got treated badly by Curley, she did not deserve to be killed. I think Steinbeck included Curleys wife in the story because I think that she makes the story interesting because she is the story.

The Benefits of Having a Greenhouse Essay -- Essays Papers

The Benefits of Having a Greenhouse There are many benefits of having a greenhouse or growing space attached to the average family home. A well-built greenhouse can utilize solar power in such a way that it becomes a positive addition to the household in every way. Greenhouses present an opportunity for everyone to be able to grow some of their own food, save electricity, gain practical experience, and soothe their mind and body. Throughout history gardens have served as a food source for families. Collecting and preserving the summer harvest provided a large part of the food for families all over the world. The nutrients contained in vegetables and fruit are very important for good health, and can enrich financially limited diets. During World War Two the American Government encouraged citizens to grow â€Å"Victory Gardens† in their backyard. These gardens would be full of vegetables to help families through financially difficult times. Not only do gardens provide fruits, vegetables, spices and flowers for people in time of need, but they have been proven to help relieve stress. Many emotional care facilities have gardens where the patients can work in the soil, water, and help take care of the plants. The simple mindless effort that goes into caring for plants is soothing, and allows people to relax their mind while using their body. Patients in physical therapy are also encouraged to work in gardens. There are many activities in gardening that can be done with little strength or flexibility. Many retirement communities have also started gardens on their property to encourage their residents to spend time caring for the plants. The reduction in petrochemical savings is important, for both financial and environmental reasons. Eating food fresh from a personal garden; grown, cared for, picked and eaten by the same person is an enormously satisfying experience. I’m Bored- What your Child Is Really Telling You Essay

In the short essay, I’m Bored: What Your Child is Really Telling You, by Linda Morgan, children everywhere are having issues with saying what they really mean when they say they are bored. Whether at home or in school, when a child says those two words, â€Å"I’m bored†, he may be in need of parental attention, redirection of school work, and direction in completing projects and activities. In today’s world, technology takes over a child’s extra time. Instead of going outside to play with friends or having a specific hobby, adolescents find themselves caught in an Xbox or computer game. Yet after they have beaten the game or moved on to something else they still complain that they are â€Å"bored†. But what does that really mean? According to Dr. Danielle Kassow, when a child states that they are uninterested in whatever they are doing or working on, it could mean that they simply want their parents, teachers, and daycare provider’s attention. It’s common for a child to want the attentiveness of an adult. Being a kid in society today, direction is still needed by the parent; whether in school or not. Adolescents need that extra push in order to make up their own mind about what they want to do next or what they are interested in. In order to help a child make up their mind, it could help to ask them questions like â€Å"what’s your favorite hobby† or give the child educational projects to do. These questions and projects will stimulate their minds and allow them to actually pay attention to something. Unlike a project that is hands on, games on any kind of technological device will allow them the chance to put their attention on something. If a child comes home from school and starts their homework, says he is bored in the middle of the assignment, it could mean that he needs a redirection of school work. His assignments may not be as challenging as they need to be for him. He is not becoming engaged in his school work, therefore he gets bored while doing or listening to his lessons. Also, it could mean that he needs a clearer pathway as to what he should start on or how he should start the homework. Children need a coach, whether it’s the parent or the teacher. Help him become motivated and less confused as to how or where he should start. Make his understanding grow a little clearer when pushing him in the direction to where he needs to start. This â€Å"coach† persona will help to child pick up an understanding about how to layout or outline his projects or assignments. It will not only give him a head start it will help him with all the assignments he may have some trouble with in the future. At times, a child saying they are bored could mean that they are independent and wants to organize their own activities. When adolescents get caught up in the technological world, they lose sight of how to rely on themselves to create their next activity. This causes them to want the guidance from the parent or teacher. While there are still children that find themselves independent, they may get bored because they don’t know how to entertain themselves. Kids need to find activities that they are able to do on their own. Things like drawing, simple building, or going outside to socialize or play with friends. Children need the time to be allowed to decide what they want to do, something that they are able to do. Giving them this time will help them reconnect with physical activities and not so much mental activities. When kids are doing their homework, and they seem to rely on their parents or teachers too much, you could give them a little time to themselves. In order to get them to think on their own without their parent saying â€Å"you aren’t doing this right† or â€Å"this is wrong do it again, let them work the assignment without any interruptions and eventually they will understand why they didn’t get the right answer at first and how they got the correct answer in the end. After they are done the parent or teacher could check their work and then tell them what they got wrong or right. This is important for the child so they can be able to learn on their own without needing the help from the teacher or parent all the time. These little techniques will come to the guardian as an advantage. Not only is the child engaging in the activity, but he or she is enjoying the process. It’s important to know what a child means when they say they are bored so they can be helped. Whether it’s tough to figure out or there is a very easy solution, in the end there will be a drastic change in the child attention skills. Boredom is a concurring epidemic in today’s society because of all the technology we rely on. Kids do not need to be exposed to all these advantages we have at a young age. Being able to rely on themselves is important in the early stages of life. Although sometimes kids say those words some parents hate to hear â€Å"I’m Bored†, it could have a complex meaning to it. Children may need attention from the parent or teacher, redirection of their school work, and some direction in completing projects and assignments. There are many ways to help children fall away from spending too much times playing computer games, or PlayStation games and allowing them to have the responsibility of choosing their own activities. Helping them move in the right direction in school work, whether they are not getting the challenge they need or simply needing that extra help starting an assignment will ultimately have a positive effect on their progress. Independent children will need the time to figure out the correct answer on their own. The guardian will also get a positive result from giving them that time to correct their issues. Children are all different, when they say they are bored, it could be something drastic or something ve ry simple. It’s up to the parent or teacher to decide what the next move is for the child.

Bullying Is A Common Practice On School Grounds - 954 Words

As a mother of two kids, bullying in schools is very important and personal subject to me. The problem is so extensive, lately it has been all over the media .According to research; bullying is when a person demonstrates an aggressive behavior and or constant toward another person. These behaviors are intended to hurt and intimidate the person physically, mentally and emotionally (stopbullying.gov 2015). Although many schools have been struggling to prevent bullying, data shows that is it a common practice on school grounds. Government sources have reported 20 to 70 percent of kids have been bullied or have witnessed bullying. In addition 28 percent of students between the ages of 12 and 18 have reported being bullied during their school years (ASPCC 2015). On many occasions, parents, schools, or the society in general dismiss bullying as a normal part of life or growing up. In many cases, children feel discouraged and end up turning to drastic measures or to violence to resolve the problem. There are many categories of bullying; physical, verbal and cyber bullying (aspcc 2015). Physical bullying is when bodily harm is caused to the other person by pushing of hitting. Verbal bullying is the use of words to carry out an act of bullying. Usually, the aggressor tries to disturb the victim by using words to upset and tease.
